Integrating environmental and social (E&S) considerations is central to AFC’s investment approach, and this manual provides the framework for doing so across all operations. It outlines the procedures for project screening, risk categorization, due diligence, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring alignment with leading global standards such as the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, and AfDB Safeguards. The manual further addresses sector-specific requirements, sovereign and trade finance transactions, grievance mechanisms, and audit provisions, embedding E&S safeguards into AFC’s processes to ensure that projects are both compliant and contribute to sustainable, responsible infrastructure development across Africa.
