AFC’s A+ Credit Rating Reaffirmed by Japan Credit Rating Agency, Strengthening Access to Asian Capital Markets
Tokyo, 22 July 2026 - Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), the continent’s leading infrastructure solutions provider, has secured reaffirmation of its long-term Issuer credit rating of A+ with a stable outlook by Japan Credit Rating Agency, Ltd (JCR), underscoring the Corporation's strong financial fundamentals, prudent risk management and consistent execution of its strategic mandate. The reaffirmed rating further strengthens AFC's position with Japanese and broader Asian institutional investors, supporting the Corporation's continued diversification of funding sources and long-term access to international capital markets.
“Leveraging its credibility as an international organization and its deep understanding of the region and projects, AFC operates as a distinctive MDB that seeks to strengthen its capital base through periodic share issuances and by retaining a substantial portion of earnings generated from its investments and loans to infrastructure projects,” JCR stated in its report. “The rating reflects the strong support from the AFC’s member states and shareholders, the benefit of its Preferred Creditor Status (PCS), a conservative financial policy, and an adequate capital base supported by strong profitability.”
